An Unexpected Journey

IMG_20170515_074831We recently embarked on an unexpected and totally unplanned journey. It’s been a little while since we’ve posted anything about it. It’s been a while since we’ve done anything worth posting about. And why is that? Believe it or not, but…

Elliott got a job.

Believe it or not, after many painful months and hundreds of applications, Elliott got offered a job. We had already dedicated ourselves to an awesome summer of nature and adventure, but this particular job was just too good to pass up. He’ll be working on climate change for the BC government, working from the beautiful city of Victoria. He’ll have every second Friday off, so we’ll still have time to become weekend warriors and explore the Island as much as we can in our spare time. And if he does a good job at work, maybe everybody will be alive just a little longer to enjoy this big wide wild world of ours, even if it’s two degrees warmer (but hopefully less!).

We’ve been busy finding a place to live, driving to Regina to pick up our clothes and teacups, finding a job for Lisa, and doing all sorts of things we never expected for this summer at all. It’s not particularly exciting stuff, but we’re finding little things to keep our lives wild, or at least as wild as they can be in a city. We planted a mini garden. We got a free chicken coop. We’ve tuned up our bikes to cruise Victoria’s awesome bike lanes.

We’ve also already started to explore some of the nooks and crannies that Vancouver Island has to offer. Turns out we did it just in time for summer!

We spent the Victoria day long weekend at a boat-access-only free campsite on Lake Cowichan. When we arrived on Friday evening we were the only ones until about noon the next day, and the sun came out in full force to greet us. It was beautiful, and a great way to say hello to or new home.

We’re still going to spend every weekend we have getting out and exploring the forest, coast, mountains, and everything in between. And we’re still more than happy to host any guests who want to come along on our weekend adventures.

Come explore the Island with us! We’re not going to let some job ruin our adventures, and neither should you!
